I have now been in my new place coming on for 2 weeks now. I am living in Porto do Barra, maybe 50 metres from the sea which I am loving. When looking for somewhere to be, being right by the sea was probably the number one factor that effected what place I would choose, the second was how good the shower was!
Barra is one of the most expensive places in Salvador for renting. I am probably only going to be able to afford to stay here just for this year until my course has finished. But I will enjoy it while it lasts, its close to everything, the beach as I already mentioned, the supermarket, the mall and its 15 minutes on the bus to UFBA.
I am renting a room in a 3 bed apartment, each bedroom has its own bathroom two rooms have en suite bathrooms and the third room has its own designated bathroom but not ensuite. My bedroom is the most expensive room, but I think the most value for money, the bedroom itself is a very large room with an ensuite bathroom and also has an attached “office” area. The office area has hooks for a hammock on the walls, so guess what i'm going to buy?!
I have already given up on moaning, but it brings me to the fact that the guy at Banco do Brasil filled out the application form to release my funds incorrectly and so I still don't have money and probably wont until the end of this week. Fingers crossed it will be by the end of this week because on Monday, I have to go back to the Federal Police and pay my fine's!
When I first moved into the apartment, I was the first person to arrive here. There was meant to be a Chilean girl renting one of the rooms and she had done so for the previous year, but had gone back to Chile and decided not to come back to Brazil for whatever reason. A couple days later another English girl moved in. It wasn't what I was hoping for ideally, I was hoping to live with either a Brazilian or someone that the common language would be Portuguese so I would be forced to speak more Portuguese. But she's a nice girl, so things could be a lot worse! Im definitely not complaining. She also studies at UFBA.
Last week there was a Brazilian girl that came to see the 3rd room and I think she liked it but didn't want to live with 2 foreigners haha! No offence taken, I don't think she spoke English and I can understand completely that for some people that would be a very awkward situation to be living in.
Which means if there is anyone wanting to rent a nice room and doesn't mind living with two native english speakers, then either send me a message on my Facebook page or leave a message in the contacts tab and I can send you the info and contact details.

My first class at UFBA was meant to have started on the 15th of February, I arrived and then was told to wait for an email but probably the classes wouldn't start until the 22nd haha! One week delay from what I know of UFBA from several friends and my girlfriend, is pretty good going!
But finally I started my course, even though its only 2 hours every other week day, I have been looking forward to having some kind of schedule again. I have been in Brazil since December and just going from day to day, and previous to arriving here I was off work since October because a car hit me off my bike breaking my arm in 2 places! So altogether I have been not doing a great deal for 5 months up till now, so its a kind of a relief!
The first class was nice, we were mixed with other foreign students that had already started the course and were on a higher level, but from what I can see the regular people I will be studying along with are from America, Colombia, Germany and me from England. I'm pretty sure the teacher doesn't speak any English which I think is probably a good thing, it should make it faster to learn?!
Thats it really, the first lesson was really an introductory lesson, introducing ourselves to each other etc. My first impressions were good and i'm excited to be finally having proper Portuguese classes and looking forward to speaking Portuguese with some kind of decent fluency.
What do you give it? 6 months?

Eu já estou no meu novo cantinho há quase duas semanas. Tô morando no Porto da Barra, talvez a uns 50 metros de distância da praia, o que eu to amando. Quando eu tava procurando um lugar pra morar, ficar perto do ar foi provavelmente o critério número um na decisão. O segundo foi a qualidade do chuveiro haha
Barra é um dos bairros mais caros de alugar em Salvador e eu provavelmente só vou conseguir bancar ficar por aqui por esse ano, até meu curso acabar. Mas eu vou me divertir, enquanto dura, já que é perto de tudo. Da praia, como eu já mencionei, do supermercado, do shopping, além de ser apenas 15 minutos no ônibus, daqui pra Ufba.
Acabei alugando um quarto num apartamento de três quartos. Cada um tem seu próprio banheiro e dois quartos são suíte, já o terceiro tem seu próprio banheiro, mas ele fica do lado de fora. Meu quarto acabou sendo o mais caro, mas eu acho que é o melhor custo-benefício já que o quarto em si é bem grande, tem banheiro interno e ainda um anexo do tipo escritório. Esse anexo tem uns ganchos na parede pra colocar uma rede, então adivinha o que eu tô querendo comprar?! :P
Eu já desisti de reclamar, mas isso me relembra o fato de que o o cara do Banco do Brasil preencheu errado o formulário de liberação do meu dinheiro, então eu ainda não tenho grana nenhuma e provavelmente não vou ter até o final dessa semana. Vou até cruzar os dedos pra que seja mesmo no final dessa semana, porque na segunda-feira eu já tenho que voltar pra Polícia Federal para pagar minhas multas!
Assim que me mudei para o apartamento, eu fui a primeira pessoa a chegar. Devia ter uma menina chilena alugando um dos quartos, porque ela já tinha morado lá no ano passado, mas tinha voltado ao Chile e daí acabou decidindo não voltar mais pro Brasil, sei lá o porquê. Uns dias depois, uma menina inglesa se mudou.
Não era bem o que eu estava esperando, num cenário ideal. Eu tava torcendo pra morar com uma pessoa brasileira ou com alguém que tivesse o português como idioma comum, que era pra eu ser forçado a falar mais português. Mas ela é legal, então podia ter sido bem pior! haha Juro que não tô reclamando. Ela também estuda na Ufba.
Na semana passada, uma menina brasileira veio ver o terceiro quarto e eu achei que ela tinha até curtido, mas que decidiu que não queria morar com dois gringos haha! Não fiquei bolado, acho que ela não falava inglês e eu entendo completamente que acabaria sendo uma situação estranhíssima ficar morando com gente que não fala nada da sua língua.
Isso significa que se tem alguém querendo alugar um quarto bem legal e que não se importa de morar com dois falantes nativos da língua inglesa, então me envie uma mensagem na pagina do blog no Facebook ou através da aba de contato e eu posso te passar os números de contato e maiores informações sobre o quarto.

Minha primeira aula na Ufba devia ter sido no dia 15 de fevereiro, então eu fui lá e daí me disseram que era pra eu ficar esperando por um e-mail porque as aulas só deveriam começar no dia 22 haha! Uma semaninha de atraso, pelo que eu sei da Ufba por diversos amigos e por minha namorada, é até bom negócio!
Mas finalmente comecei meu curso e apesar de ser apenas por duas horas, dias de segunda, quarta e sexta, eu já estou até ansioso pra ter uma nova rotina. Tô aqui no Brasil desde dezembro e só indo de um dia pro outro, inclusive, antes de chegar aqui, eu estava afastado do trabalho desde outubro porque um carro me atropelou enquanto eu andava de bicicleta. Acabei quebrando meu braço em dois lugares! Então, no final das contas, eu tô de bunda pra cima há quase cinco meses já, então é até um alívio ter uma nova rotina!
A primeira aula foi massa. Nós ficamos misturados com outros estudantes estrangeiros que já tinham começado o curso e estavam num nível maior, mas do que eu pude perceber do pessoal que vai sempre, eu vou estudar com gente dos EUA, da Colômbia, Alemanha e eu da Inglaterra. Eu tenho certeza que eu a professora não fala inglês, o que é até uma coisa boa já que isso pode acelerar o processo de aprendizado, né?
A primeira aula foi mesmo uma aula mais introdutória. A gente se apresentou um pro outro, etc. As minhas primeiras impressões foram boas e eu tô empolgado pra finalmente ter uma aula de português de verdade. Também estou ansioso pra falar português numa fluência decente! haha
